It is now time to begin final assembly! Bear in mind, the paint on your mask is relatively young and may still be soft for weeks after painting. You need to avoid damaging your paint job or you will need to repeat the sanding and painting steps.
As such, take your time with each step and use the soft white plastic storage bags included in your kit as a suitable work surface where paint will be less likely to transfer to.
The top hinge consists of two parts, a bar and a hook. The bar piece sits on the inside of the front shell and the hook piece sits on the inside of the rear shell. Each piece is secured with two screws inserted from the outside and using a washer and a nut on the inside. Tighten each set of fixings using the included hex key and wrench.
|
IMPORTANT NOTE: If paint build-up prevents the screws from slotting freely into the shell, carefully remove excess paint with a sharp knife or a 4mm drill bit. You may want to secure the nuts permanently by applying a drop of cyanoacrylate glue (Trade name "Super Glue") to the tip of the screw before installing the nut. Excess glue may damage the paintwork so care must be taken. |
Each side hinge consists of two parts, a latch mechanism and a hook. The latch mechanism piece sits on the outside surface of the rear shell and the hook piece sits on the outside surface of each side of the front shell. Each piece is secured with two screws inserted from the outside and using a washer and a nut on the inside. For the latch mechanisms, you need to lift the handle to gain access to the screw holes. Tighten each set of fixings using the included hex key and wrench.
